Theism vs. Deism

Theism
This concept encompasses what is the belief that a god or gods exist. In fact, the word itself comes from the Greek “theos” which means “god.”
According to theism, god or gods have created the universe and everything in it, but not only that; they also form an active part of this, either helping people, guiding the lives of people, offering good understanding when making an important decision … In this context, most religions fall into the category of theists.
Theism in turn can be subdivided into two categories: monotheism (belief that there is only one god) and polytheism (belief that there are several gods).
Deism
On the other hand, deism is somewhat similar and at the same time different from theism. In this case also the belief in God or gods is presented, however, unlike theism that affirms that God participates actively in its creation; deism states that god is not an active part in the universe or in people’s lives.
Some deists go so far as to say that God created the universe, but then abandoned it. Most deists use this as an answer to justify or explain why bad things happen and there is so much suffering in the world. Finally, unlike theists, deists tend to deny the existence of supernatural events and miracles; in their place they affirm that God established natural laws for this world, but he does not interfere with them.
