Difference between Wine and Whiskey

If you have doubts about what the difference is between wine and whiskey or just looking for a little more information to complement what you already know, then continue reading, because below we explain everything you need and want to know around this interesting topic.

Whiskey
Usually, whiskey is made from barley, barley malt, rye, rye malt, wheat, buckwheat and corn. To make malt with the aforementioned ingredients, they first get wet and are placed on the malt soil that allows the germination that constitutes the beginning of the process. In this way the starch is converted into the sugar that eventually is transformed into alcohol. Once the germination process ends, the barley is dried in a kiln. When the malt dries, it is reduced to a kind of coarse flour called grinding.

The grind is mixed with hot water in the macerate tub. A grinding volume is mixed with four volumes of water and this converts the starch into fermented sugar. The remaining sugary juice is called must and the rest is macerated about three or four times, until you get as much juice as possible.

When all the must is obtained, then yeast is added and allowed to ferment. After fermentation, the whiskey is distilled. Once distilled, it begins to ripen (almost always in barrels) and at the end it is bottled and sold.

There are many types and classifications of whiskey and the alcohol content in it depends to a large extent on the regulations of each country; however, it almost always contains between 40-50% and in exceptional cases up to 96%.

Wine
On the other hand, the wine is made of grapes and, although there are more classifications; in a general sense people talk about red wine or white wine. The red is made of black grapes, while the white is made of white grapes or the juice of black grapes. Grapes are rarely black or white, but white grapes are more often used when it comes to the type of clear peel (which may be green, yellow or orange); while the black grapes are those of a somewhat red or blue color ranging from ruby red to deep indigo.

The production process varies depending on the type of wine, but in both cases the grapes are crushed in a machine, fermented and then stored for a while. Finally, wine and whiskey not only differ in the process followed for their production, they also contain a different degree of alcohol. Wine contains much less alcohol than whiskey.
