Corn syrup is a food additive created from corn starch and is comprised mainly of glucose and carbohydrates.

Amylase is actually an enzyme that breaks starch into glucose.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

Once corn syrup has been created, the creation of high fructose corn syrup is easy.

As, the corn syrup needs to go through enzymatic treatment to convert some of the glucose into fructose, which is a little bit sweeter than glucose.

With the enzymatic treatment, high fructose corn syrup turns into a supplement of sweets and has been commonly found in food products.

High quantities of high fructose corn syrup are mainly used in the manufacturing procedure for carbonated drinks.

Note: Corn Syrup can also be used in substitution with sucrose.

The U.S. Food and Medication Supervision, in 1976, accepted HFCS as safe as other sweets products.

But there is something that one must keep in mind that the processed compound is generally more threatening than regular glucose.

Even though the labels of the products may misguide their users to feel that there is absolutely no difference between both of these products.

And can be utilized as substitutes but there’s a critical difference between corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup.

Simple corn syrup is merely created by hydrolyzing corn starch,

Whereas high fructose corn syrup is made by enzymatic action on huge quantities of corn syrup.
