What is TN?

They typically have lower image quality than IPS or VA panels, and their viewing angles are relatively limited. As a result, TN panels are not the best choice for users who want the best possible image quality or for those who often view their screens from an angle.

What is IPS?

IPS, or in-plane switching, is a screen technology for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). IPS panels are characterized by their wide viewing angles and consistent color reproduction. IPS panels are used in a variety of display applications, including mobile devices, desktop monitors, and televisions. IPS panels are more expensive than traditional LCD panels, but they offer superior image quality and durability. IPS panels are also less susceptible to screen burn-in.

Difference between TN and IPS

TN (Twisted Nematic) and IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels are the two most common types of LCD panels used in today’s computer monitors. TN panels are the most affordable and have the fastest response times, making them ideal for gaming. IPS panels provide better color reproduction and viewing angles but are more expensive. TN panels are made up of two sheets of glass with a TN liquid crystal layer between them.

The crystals align vertically when no voltage is applied, but twist when a voltage is applied, allowing light to pass through. IPS panels work in a similar way, but the crystals are aligned horizontally when no voltage is applied. This results in better color reproduction and viewing angles, but slower response times.


TN panels are the most common and least expensive type of monitor panel. They offer fast response times and good color reproduction for gaming and other fast-paced activities. However, their viewing angles are limited due to the use of a backlight that shines through the LCD matrix. This can cause colors to appear washed out or distorted when viewed from an angle.

IPS panels offer better viewing angles and more accurate colors than TN panels, but they also come with a higher price tag. If you plan on using your monitor for tasks that require consistent color accuracies, such as photo editing or graphic design, then an IPS panel is the best option.
