Science vs. Pseudoscience

What is difference between Science and Pseudoscience? Science has to do with a series of proven principles, which can help explain the facts and phenomena. Pseudo science, on the other hand, is a pretense. It involves skipping things that do not tolerate scientific scrutiny as real.

Difference between Science and Pseudoscience

To know if something is science there must be certain indicators, the weight of the evidence, the design of significant experiments, the weight of opinions, hypotheses that are put to the test and the resulting theories as tools that are used to make reliable conclusions about the physical universe. Pseudo science is something certain people use to enact concepts and ideas by presenting them in terms that they take from science but that do not measure according to that scientific scrutiny. Meridian therapy, reflexology, therapeutic touches, etc. are some of these examples.

Science is always based on facts, and comes from these bases. Pseudo science depends on facts fabricated by a person on a particular brand or pseudo fact. Science involves the constant updating of knowledge about facts whenever new information comes to light. This is why students’ textbooks have new revisions from time to time. Pseudo science does not suffer from this, since its facts and data are imprecise and there is no incentive or inclination to get to the truth.

Scientific research is always meticulous and seeks to obtain validity from several authentic sources. Pseudo science is a foolish investigation and depends on texts from another pseudo science or religious or mythological works that have nothing to do with the fact or the matter. Science uses rational criteria to reach a conclusion. Pseudo science first arrives with an imaginary hypothesis that appeals to someone’s emotions and can be fantastic in its implications, then gathers evidence that somehow supports this hypothesis.

The science always Tata and presents an argument to support the facts and evidence. All pseudo science will have its rhetoric, propaganda and representation and will have little or no evidence.

In Summary:

  • To know if something is science, there are certain indicators, the weight of the evidence, the design of significant experiments, the weight of opinions, arriving at a hypothesis that is then put to the test, and the resulting theories that are tools with which the science tries to make its reliable conclusions about the physical universe. Pseudo science is something certain people use to enact concepts and ideas by presenting them in terms that they take from science but that do not measure according to that scientific scrutiny.
  • Science will always have facts and will proceed on the basis of these. Pseudo science will depend on facts fabricated by a person about a particular brand or event.
  • Science involves the constant updating of knowledge about facts, as well as the information that comes to light. Pseudo science does not suffer from this, since its facts and data are imprecise and there is no incentive or inclination to get to the truth.
