Oxycodone vs. Hydrocodone
Oxycodone and hydrocodone are similar drugs in some ways and different in others. Oxycodone is the strongest of the two drugs and hydrocodone is the generic name for Norco, Lortab and Vicodin and 30 others. Hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic and is also regulated. It can cause habit like Vicodin and others, it is a combination consisting of hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Difference between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone
Oxycodone is also a narcotic analgesic and can cause habit in the same way. It is a drug combination composed of acetaminophen and oxycodone which is the generic name for Percocet, Tylox, and Roxilox. It is strictly regulated and can only be purchased under medical prescription. Because of their high consumption and abuse and their dependence, doctors prefer to prescribe Vicodin instead of Percocet.
Hydrocodone is an active ingredient in the drugs Vicodin and Lortab. It can be of size 5 or 7.5 mg. Oxycodone is the active ingredient in Percodan (with aspirin) or Perocet (with Tylenol). It is also available in standard medication in the form of Oxycontin. Another difference is the fact that oxycodone can be crushed and mixed with water to be injected, the same cannot be done with hydrocodone. 10 mg of hydrocodone equals 6.67mf of oxycodone and 10 mg of oxycodone have the same potency as 15 mg of hydrocodone.
Oxycodone can also be described as an opioid analgesic that is derived from opium. It was developed in Germany in 1916, to be able to improve existing opiates such as morphine, heroin and codeine. Hydrocodone, on the other hand, is known as an intermediate strength that acts as an analgesic and a cold trap. It was developed in Germany in the year 1920 and was found in the United States and Canada in 1943 under the brand name Hycodan. In the form of narcotice, hydrocodone relieves pain in the brain and in the spine. Oxycodone, on the other hand, acts on opium receptors. It has a variety of effects including fatigue, dizziness, nausea, headache, anxiety and others. There is also the possibility that a patient has symptoms if the drug is abruptly withdrawn.
The side effects associated with hydrocodone are similar and consist of nausea, sweating, constipation, vomiting and others. In fact, vomiting can be so severe that you need hospitalization. Prolonged use can cause hearing loss in some cases.
- Hydrocodone contains Vicodin, while oxycodone is composed of acetaminophen
- Another difference is that oxycodone can be crushed and mixed with water to be injected, which cannot be done with hydrocodone
- Oxycodone can also be described as an analgesic opioid. Hydrocodone, on the other hand, is known to have intermediate strength that acts as an analgesic and as a powerful cough suppressant.
