If you have doubts about it or want a little more information, continue reading, because then we explain to you the difference between merit and distinction.

Merit
Merit refers to doing so well a task, activity or action that sees the need to recognize or praise performance. Usually, when someone is meritorious in something receives prizes for his good work, however, sometimes these prizes are not physical; but have to do with recognition before others.

To assert that someone has merit in something is to recognize the value and excellence of that person in the performance of the action he executes. If it’s in a classroom, the merit basically shows that one person put in more effort than others and did very good work.

Distinction
On the other hand, a distinction is an honor given to a person who is so good at something that differs completely from the others; so when you distinguish someone beyond giving prizes, you are given special treatment. Within the academic environment, it is common for distinctions to be made to teachers or persons with some authority and not to students, to whom merit is recognized.
