Difference between Eyetoy and Kinect

It can be tough to decide which gaming accessory is right for you. Do you go with the Eyetoy, the older option, or the Kinect, the newer and more advanced choice? Both have their pros and cons, but in this blog post we’ll help you figure out which one is best for your needs. So let’s take a closer look at the differences between these two devices!

What is Eyetoy?

Eyetoy is a webcam-style camera device used for video gaming on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 platforms. The Eyetoy was released in 2003 as a commercial product and became one of the first mass-marketed webcam devices. It quickly gained popularity for its use in video gaming, where it was used to provide motion control and gesture recognition input. In 2005, Sony released a second generation of the Eyetoy, which included updated hardware and software. The Eyetoy has since been succeeded by the PlayStation Move, which was launched in 2010.

What is Kinect?

  • Kinect is a motion sensing device that enables users to control and interact with Microsoft Xbox 360 video game consoles and Windows PCs without the need for a hand-held controller. Kinect was first announced on June 1, 2009 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, under the codename “Project Natal”. Kinect was released in North America on November 4, 2010, followed by additional markets later that month.
  • Kinect features an infrared projector combined with a monochrome CMOS sensor and processes 2 GB of data per second to track up to six people and recognize their gestures. Kinect’s “wingspan” is approximately 50 centimeters (20 inches). Kinect can process skeletal tracking of people in real time. This tracking can be used for estimation of body measurements or recreation of deformable models such as clothes.
  • Body measurements obtained using Kinect have been shown to be within 2% accurate when compared to measurements obtained using medical devices designed for body measurement such as calipers. Kinect uses Active infrared technology to reflect IR light off objects in its field of view. The Kinect sensor contains an active IR projector with a custom CMOS sensor.

Difference between Eyetoy and Kinect

  • Eyetoy and Kinect are both input devices that allow users to interact with video games using their bodies. Eyetoy was released in 2003 and was designed for use with the PlayStation 2. It consists of a small camera that is placed on top of the television and tracks the player’s movement. Kinect was released in 2010 and is designed for use with the Xbox 360.
  • It includes a depth sensor, which can track theplayer’s body in three dimensions. Both Eyetoy and Kinect can be used to play a variety of games, but Kinect offers a more immersive experience as it can track the player’s entire body. In addition, Kinect can be used as a controller-free input device for other applications such as Netflix and Hulu. As a result,Kinect is generally considered to be more advanced than Eyetoy.

Conclusion

Although Eyetoy was the first to market, Kinect has been more successful because it offers a wider range of features and is more affordable. If you are looking for an interactive gaming experience that will engage your customers, Kinect is the better choice.
