What is Difference between Egg Noodles and Pasta? Most people have a great passion for the many varieties of pasta that include egg noodles and traditional pasta. There are many varieties of sauces that are used in them and the dishes for which they are prepared leave us open-mouthed. One interesting thing is that most people do not know that there is a difference between these two meals. This article will highlight the differences between egg noodles and pasta.

  • Ingredients

The egg noodles are made from unfermented dough that is cooked in boiling water. Generally egg noodles are made of eggs and flour or rice flour. Sometimes arrowroot or tapioca flour is added to improve its texture and uniformity. In many cases, the egg noodles are made and fried for a period of time before using them for the preparation of a specific dish.

The pasta is also made from unfermented semolina either wheat or sorghum that is cooked in boiling water and in some cases vegetables is added to the dough.

  • Shapes

There are many varieties of egg noodles and the shapes vary from country to country. Egg noodles are typically long, flat strips. Generally, the Japanese and Chinese noodles are long, wide strips of mace and the German variety is short, thin and much smaller.

Unlike egg noodles, pastas come in various lengths, sizes and shapes. Many times the pasta is added with meats, cheeses and other vegetables that are served with some type of sauce. Some of the forms include spaghetti and angel hair (long straws) macaroni (which can be in the form of clams and tubes) lasagna (long and broad leaves) fusilli (coiled and short) farfalia (buns) rigatoni (long tubes)

  • Origin

It is generally accepted that egg noodles originated in China between 25 and 200 BC, although the Arabs and Italians also claim that they invented this marvel before that. In October 2005, at the Lajia site in Qinghai, China, the oldest egg noodle strip was discovered. It seems that it is about 4000 years old and was made from a mixture of sorghum and oats.

Regarding the origin of the pasta, nobody has been able to determine exactly when or who was the first to invent it. The Talmud records a similar meal in Palestine during the third century; however, the Greek physicist Galen identified a comparable material in the second century. Even long ago in the first century, Horace described delicious leaves of dough that were fried. When excavations continued in the ruins of Egypt, they found evidence that the paste had been for much longer than expected.
