In this case the emphasis is on computers and robots, but there are exceptional cases in which not. Likewise, a dystopian view of society is almost always present, in which the latter is threatened with being destroyed by wars or by technology. Generally, social order is a complete chaos.

In addition, the issue of freedom and the dichotomy between will and destiny are recurrent themes in everything that has to do with cyberpunk. If it comes to stories (in movies, books, anime …), almost always appears an antihero who is part of the system but must take justice by his hands and solve crimes.

Steampunk
The steampunk shares some similarities with the cyberpunk, but unlike the latter the first is situated in the nineteenth century; century of the industrial revolution and steam engines.

It presents an aesthetic that reminds of the steam engines of the Victorian Era. Sometimes the plot takes place in the old west of the United States or in an alternate reality related to the aforementioned century.

Generally, the steampunk world is full of anarchism and everyone watches over their own interests. The important thing here is “what the past would be like if the future had come before.”

Any the key differences between steampunk and cyberpunk are: – Cyberpunk focuses on dystopias, while steampunk focuses on anarchism. Also the steampunk is situated in the nineteenth century and how it would have been if everything had been more futuristic, while the cyberpunk focuses on the future in which science and technology play an important role.
